The long-running WINC Holiday Fair returned to Niwot better than ever – lots of wonderful stalls from local businesses selling fabulous gifts, and our famous bake sale! British mince pies, German cookies, and many different cakes and goodies were baked by members and all proceeds went to local charities. And of course, Santa and Mrs Claus called in to really make a special day …
This event was a unique opportunity to taste the emerging wines with the winemaker as they age in the barrel as well as compare wine aged in different types of barrels. Members also tasted current wine releases. A five course sit-down dinner was served and each wine was perfectly matched with gourmet dishes prepared by Eric Skokan, chef and owner of the Black Cat Farm Bistro in Boulder.

March saw a cocktail masterclass to become a mixology master! Our host for the evening was a trained mixologist who schooled us in the classic cocktails and give us some history and back story to their development over time, from the roaring 20s, past prohibition to the glamorous “Mad Men” years and beyond.
In addition, we were be joined by a representative from Cyr vodka – Wine Enthusiast’s pick for top tasting vodka in the world. Delicious soft drinks were courtesy of local water and drinks brand Llanllyr Source.
After the bustle of the holidays we were all in the mood for some spa time! Dragontree Spa on Peal Street in Boulder was our venue for an enjoyable foot spa with aromatherapy oils, milks, rose panels and more, in a beautiful and comfortable location just right for our group. Lunch afterwards was at Pizzeria Locale for some of the best pizza in Colorado!
As is traditional a holiday inner took place in December for all members. This is the one social event of the year when we try to get as many members as possible attending, to really celebrate each other and the holiday season. It was the close of a great year for WINC and much fun was had, with a traditional British holiday dinner created especially for us by 1914 House restaurant (including puddings cooked by our wonderful Treasurer Jan) and the notorious Secret Santa gift exchange. A fun and fitting close to WINC’s year.
